At Middleground Farm, we are dedicated to breeding and raising quality
registered miniature Herefords.
Here in the Finger Lakes region of New York state, we are blessed with a
moderate climate, along with excellent soils known not only for producing award
winning wines, but some of the finest grazing and crop land in the east. With
this, we feel blessed to be stewards of our land, and consider it our obligation
and privilege to care for both the land and our cattle using the most
environmentally sound practices we can.
We follow sound management practices, which include pastures being over seeded
twice yearly with grasses and nitrogen-fixing legumes, ensuring nutritious
summer feed for our cattle and their calves. We rotate our pastures to maintain
clean, healthy pastures, reduce parasites and renew forages throughout the
growing season. We do not use any chemical wormers, insecticides or
growth-enhancing hormones on our cattle. Our livestock eat as nature intended
ruminants to eat; on natural browse and grasses, all natural free choice salt
and minerals supplemented with kelp; top quality mixed hay and bright oat straw
in the winter months. This, along with fresh clean water and year round
accessible shelter, makes the Miniature Hereford virtually trouble free; docile,
fat, and productive, delivering a healthy calf every spring for us.
We have had an exceptional calving season this spring, and are pleased to be
able to offer several nice cows and their calves at this time. We are also
offering our herd sire for sale, as we need to bring in new bloodlines for our
herd.
The registered miniature Hereford will fulfill all of your small livestock
investment needs; improving and qualifying your property for farm tax exemption
status, equity building with a yearly return on investment in the form of a
calf, and will produce a highly sought after product in the form of natural
grass finished beef, with minimal equipment and labor. Grass finished beef is
known to contain more of the Omega 3 fatty acids
and CLA, which makes it the most nutritious choice in the beef market today.
Supply cannot meet the demand at present. They also make fantastic show or 4-H
cattle.
Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in any of our animals,
several can be grouped together for a great starter herd. All the animals being
offered are grass fed, and are in excellent health. They are young cattle, and
are only being offered for sale due to the fact we are so limited in space at
present.
