The Alu Family
We started Middleground Farm Miniature Herefords in the fall of 2005 with the purchase of 3 registered weanling heifers and a yearling bull from Point of Rocks ranch.
Middleground Farm is located in the north west corner of the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York . We are a small farm of 22 acres, with approximately a third of it in fenced pasture. Our animals are allowed free access to shelter and shade year round. We rotate our pastures to keep not only our cattle healthy, but our grass and ground as well.
If we cannot grow good pasture, we cannot grow healthy and happy animals. We use small water tanks that can easily be dumped and cleaned regularly, and feed only the best hay available, along with natural minerals and salt. Our animals receive no grain, as we try to keep the cattle eating as nature had designed them to eat. We believe a healthy cow is a happy cow, and we do our best to ensure our animals are clean, well fed, and comfortable at all times.
Our cattle are accustomed to being handled daily and are moved from pasture to pasture with a simple call, following behind us as we walk them to wherever we need them to go. There is nothing more satisfying than watching the animals romp through fresh green pasture, tails in the air, sleek and fat.
Our goal is to produce an animal that is good enough for breeding, showing or pet, gentle, true to type yet rugged enough for any climate; able to thrive on grass and hay alone, and have minimal health problems. The miniature Hereford has surpassed our expectations in all areas as the perfect breed for the small farm of several acres to the wide open range.
We hope you enjoy your on-line visit to our farm, please do not hesitate to contact us if we can help answer any questions you may have, are interested in starting a herd of your own or adding to your existing herd.
